Brytton Bjorngaard, Associate Professor

I design, photograph, make, and teach.

I was born in Minnesota and have spent my life as a rolling stone, living in Oregon, Minnesota, Spain, Italy, Iowa, Washington, and now Illinois. I received an MFA in Graphic Design from Iowa State University and a BA in Graphic Design from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, with a Minor in Media Communications. I am currently an Associate Professor and Director of Visual Arts at the University of Illinois Springfield. I previously held positions at Whitworth University and Iowa State University. I teach courses in Graphic Design, including introductory technology, print, typography, web, animation, digital and film photography, and professional skills. In addition to teaching, I am a freelance graphic designer and was a co-director of DEMO Project (a former artist-run contemporary and alternative project gallery). I am also the VP of Creative Reuse Marketplace, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to keeping Art, Hobby, and Craft supplies out of the landfill while providing resources for upcycling.

I occasionally take on new clients myself, but I also actively seek opportunities to bring real-world projects into the classroom, giving students valuable, hands-on experience working with clients. If you're located in the Springfield, Illinois area and need design services, I’d love to hear from you. Depending on the scope and timing of your project, I, my class, or one of my exceptionally talented students or recent graduates may be able to assist in meeting your design needs.
